Georgia Recyclers Association statement regarding the purchase of scrap batteries

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]As many of you may be aware, battery thefts from vehicles, construction and farm equipment have recently become a problem throughout Georgia. We are hearing many reports of thefts across the state.

The board and officers of the GRA discussed this issue and have decided to issue the following statement to the membership, all Georgia recyclers and the public in general:

Due to the increased incidence of battery theft in Georgia, and to assure that the  exemption of batteries from regulated metals does not in any way encourage this theft, the Georgia Recyclers Association hereby recommends that all Georgia recyclers voluntarily begin treating batteries as a regulated metal, with the same payment and recordkeeping requirements as copper, brass, aluminum and other regulated metals.”

We are hopeful that by doing this, that the incidence of battery theft will decrease significantly.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely.

Rick Caldwell
